Look for a windows version of vi. It's brilliant at this sort of thing.
Sorry I don't know of the location off the top of my head but google
will find one for sure. Just type "free windows vi"

Ok I did that just to see.. And the first selection was
http://www.winvi.de/en/ It looks like the trick.

Best Regards,
Michael.

Subject: EOS: (off topic) renaming part of a file name

Hi guys,

Looking for your opinion on what cheap (if not free) batch processing
software utility can be used to maintain part of a file name while
changing the other, but maintains the file extension.

My dilemma is that my 1D Mk 2 names the files in the XXXXnnnn.jpg format
(where X denotes an alphabetic character and n denotes a numeric
character), which I then keep unchanged for future reference, but one of
the group I must provide the large quantity of files to insists on
adding certain identifier to the file name but retain the numeric
portion, i.e. they want the final file name to be YYYYnnnn.jpg, or I
suppose the file name can also be YYYY_XXXXnnnn.jpg.

Any suggestions for a quick and dirty (and cheap/free) batch utility to
do this?

Thanks in advance.

Ken
