I used the default on my EOS 1ds but my pictures were
visibly less than sharp. So I increased in-camera
sharpening and they are OK now. 
What I still can't understand is why, given a sharp
properly focused lens and a fast enough shutter speed,
a camera would need that much sharpening. It's hard to
believe the filtering would cause that much of a loss
but I think it does. I wish all the filtering was
external. I'd rather put up with moire than softness.
Kinda like it in fact!
