Understood.  But, does it really buy you anything (in that application)?  I
guess that's what I'm questioning.  For my use, it certainly wouldn't do
anything for me.  But, for your use, perhaps, I don't know.

What I found with the 24-70 2.8L is when I shoot with it in low light, the
2.8 makes it difficult to autofocus, so IS or not, it'll still hunt around
(I use an EOS-1V and EOS-3), so even if you gain something, you may have
trouble autofocusing.  Also, the EOS stock screen doesn't do well manual
focusing, at least for me, and changing it doesn't do well autofocusing.
That's why I like using the faster fixed focus lenses for low light
situations.  But, you may be OK in a conference if you've got decent enough
lighting, or if everyone wears pinstripes...and you'd get increased DOF,
which would probably be a bonus.  Let me know if it works for you, that is,
if there is an IS 24-70 available, and if you end up getting one.
