You're right for the EOS-1V and EOS-3 at least. Is this true for all EOS
bodies?

The split or microprism screens don't have the "oval", I'm not sure that
matters or not. Do you know if these "focusing aids" effect the metering at
all, and are the screens with "focusing aids" they same brightness as the
stock EOS-1V screen?

If there's no detriment to changing the screen (though the EOS-1V brochure
doesn't show a split with a microprism collar, which is my choice manual
focus screen) then perhaps I'll try a different screen and see if it helps
with manual focus. But, I must admit, the autofocus on the EOS-1V has been
superb so far.

Regards,

Austin
