Subject: Safe trigger voltage for EOS350d
Hi,
I've read off a photo.net post and a couple other sites that the EOS
350D can handle the high trigger voltage (up to 250v) of some of the
older flashes. I have an old Mecablitz flash that i want to use on my
350d, and it has a trigger voltage of 60+ volts. Before I test it out,
can I just see if anyone else has used a flash with a high trigger
voltage successfully (did not fry your cam), on your 350d? Do you guys
think there are any longer term repercussions of using a high trigger
voltage flash on the 350d?
Thanks!
Roland
Hi,
My take on this area (I don't have a 350D or similar) is that the higher
voltage (~250v) is ONLY acceptable if applied to the PC flash connector, and
that the flash shoe is quite limited, say 6v. (Check the manual -
downloadable if you've mislaid yours.)
Do bear in mind that damage from excess voltages (and static) may not be
apparent immediately. (A latency can be involved.) I used to work in
avionics where there was occasionally enough money to have failed chips
taken apart and examined under microscopes, optical and SEM, where all was
revealed!
