I know this topic is becoming overdone but I'd like
advice. I'm waiting on a 40D like many. Just received
a nice gift certificate and was wondering if I'd be
happy enough with XTi? I hear it's small ans many add
the battery grip to get a better feel. Wonder if that
works for some? Also, although I handle my stuff as
gently as possible is an XTi rugged. Right now I own
a 10D and regular. With all it's old time short
coming, I've liked the 10D.
So, wait, get an XTi( and to 40 comes out following
week). I know it's personal preference but any
thoughts would be appreciated. Aaargh!

The 30D was announced 21 Feb 06 or a bit less than 15 months ago. The
20D was 19 Aug 04 and the 10D 27 Feb 03.
How long is the gift certificate good for? You might wait for the 40D
but then pretty soon the 50D will be out...... My point here is that
you can wait and wait and not get the features or benefits of the new
toy waiting for the newest of the new.....
I understand your concerns about buying a 30D today and the 40D is
announced tomorrow but while I haven't been watching it like a hawk it
seems that the price of the 30D has been pretty stable and generally
when the price starts going down a replacement is on the way.
If you're happy with the 10D hang on as long as you can and the
certificate is good
As for the XTi or 400D, go to a camera shop and feel it. But if you
take a lot of the store's time consider buying it there.
BTW, my decision was easier since I was happy with my EOS-3, a film
body, so waiting for the 20D was easy since My first real exposure to a
dslr was a 10D and I had no reason to buy digital right now........
Oh yeah, and look at http://www.dpreview.com
