It was talked about so much the list even came up with it's own
acronym BEETTL (blinking eye E-TTL syndrome). Googling for
BEETL comes up with this list as the first but not the only
relevant hit.

You could set the flash on manual or use FEL to separate the pre
flash from the main flash
