Be careful with a typing eraser, only use a pink pearl style. The white erasers usually have grit in them the pink pearls do not. A soft cloth dampened with rubbing alcohol is another useful thing to clean contacts.....



Most lens (Canon) contacts are gold plated, so oxidation shouldn't be a 
problem, although 3rd-party manufacturers aren't always.


Even though contacts are gold plated there is ocassionally some dirt that collects and causes poor contact..... As we used to say in the computer business, gold doesn't corrode but it does get dirty. This is why reseating logic cards is a real fix.....
