Yeah, this is a sadly unintended side effect of the magic I had worked out to make %clean optional. Instead it introduced situations where %clean needed to be removed (but, of course, not every situation).
I'm still thinking about ways to handle it, but EPEL5 is fortunately not long for this world anyway so I'm weighing now much effort it's worth to perfect rather than just removing it.
