Sure, smooge usually beats the drum on that a year in advance then
multiple times leading up to retirement (at least that was the case for
rhel5/epel5).

I'm confused here. I doubt very much RHEL is going to drop python2 from
rhel7. Thus epe7 packages should be able to go on as they have...
