Patience has never been much of a virtue of mine, so I called Equis again.
MetaStock 12 will not and can not use local price datafiles. The Downloader
will continue to be distributed, but will no longer be updated. You can
retrieve data using the Downloader, but MS12 cannot use it. This is the
reason third party price data vendors and price data sources (like Monsoor's
Utilities) can no longer be used with MS12. MS12 does not use local data..

Plug-ins and Add-ins will continue to work as usual. For those familiar
with my work of using .csv files (breadth data on ETFs) with MetaStock via a
plug-in, the plug-in will continue to work as usual. This means that local
data can be used in the new MS12, but only as values, not as price data (for
bar charts and candle charts, etc.). This has always been the case though.
If any of you brilliant minds out their can figure out how to make a bar
chart from four separate values, I would greatly like to hear it.

Thanks, again.

Best,

Larry

Subject: RE: [EquisMetaStock Group] Re: MetaStock 12 EOD and Third Party
Data

I just spoke with Equis regarding the version 12 and datafeeds. Here is
what I remember of the conversation:

Reuters Datalink remains exactly the same. So older MetaStock versions will
continue to work with the data. The difference is all in MetaStock version
12 and how it permissions and retrieves the data from Reuters. MS12 moves
away from local storage of data in favor of pulling the data from Reuters
servers as needed. The person I spoke with, assures me that this will cause
no slowdown in filters or any MetaStock function. I assume that local data
storage is still possible, but I don't know. Maybe someone else will ask,
because I did not ask that question.

For real time users, eSignal stopped supporting third party software last
year and probably will not work with the new version. There is, however,
Reuters Icon. It is a real time feed from Reuters, available now, and
compatible with MS12. Eventually it will have an API similar to eSignal's
which allows data to be used directly by programs outside software.

For me, this works because I currently use both eSignal and Reuters Datalink
(EOD). When Reuters Icon offers an "API" I will switch to that only and
have the best of all worlds and save some money too. Reuters Icon also
provides delayed global quotes at no additional charge or real time for a
small added fee plus exchange fees.

So my guess is, assuming local price file storage is still accommodated,
most third party datafeeds may work (including Monsoor's utilities). I
should have asked, but maybe someone else can nail it down. If local price
file storage is still allowed, virtually nothing changes. Third party data
sources never could use the Downloader anyway. If local price file storage
is not allowed, then everything changes as previously discussed here in the
forum.

Thanks all and good luck. Especially you guys dealing with hurricane Sandy
on the US East Coast.

Best,

Larry
