Hi Glen,

Refer to the Ercoupe Instruction Manual, p. 6, "Landing":

"When the throttle is fully closed, carburetor air heat is applied
automatically through a linkage connected with the throttle arm. From
half throttle to full throttle, cold air is fed automatically to the
engine. However a manual control is also provided...to keep hot air
feeding to the carburetor at more than half throttle setting when icing
        conditions prevail."

This was the standard setup, NOT a modification. Very few coupes still
have this linkage.

Also see the Ercoupe Parts Manual, p. 22, Fig. 17. Note item 17-10:

"Air filter assembly - with auto. carb heat"

The Arm (17-20) and Cam (17-21) appear to be part of the actuating
mechanism and remain available from Univair at a nominal price.

The real question, at least to me, is how "legal" are coupes that DO
NOT have this installation fully functioning and lack appropriate
APPROVED paperwork documenting its removal (as to insurance and FAA
enforcement ramifications). Do any of you have such paperwork (or
related log verbage signed off by an appropriate authority)?

Review of the 415-D and 415-E & G Flight Manuals make no mention of
this feature, while the Parts Manual says the parts mentioned above
apply to "All". I would speculate the "auto carb heat" function was
omitted from all models after the 415-C. If anyone on this list has
any clear indication to the contrary, I hope they will share this with
us.

Regards,

  William R. Bayne
