Also you can learn some of this stuff from the FAA records that are available on CD. For instance on mine S/N 2556 it is clear that it came from the factory with a generator, regulator, starter and battery and no sun shade. It also had a 5 gallon header and a 9 gallon wing tank but it looks like there was some confusion or typos on the wing tanks. The equipment list does not list an optional left wing tank but the first weight and balance shows two 9 gallon tanks and right away a radio, venturi and gyro instruments were installed and on that weight and balance they list a right side aux tank. I think they were just mistaken and should have said left side aux tank.
