My Dad was sorta of a Dare Devil. And we are way
out in the boonies and no one at that time was around to tell him he shouldn't
do it in a coupe. He and I had looped J-3's many times so he just did it.
The First loop Dad did, I was with him I was 10 and
Dad owned 1/2 interest in a 1938 40 Hp J-3( thats right 40 hp J-3). He had just
got his private lic. We flew out over the ground the other owner was farming
with his Cat. So he looped it so the guy could watch. I think we did about 4
loops.
When I just had my student ticket (I soloed on my
sixteenth birthday, Oct 23, 1950 in this coupe 99136 and about two weeks later
soloed in a J-3 cub)) about 2 months I did loops, and spins
about every time I went out. one day I did 5 consective loops. This was in a
65hp J-3. this was in the fall of 1950. Of course we had no Chute.
