Even looking through it, I found nothing in which seemed specific to an Ercoupe list. As you say, it's customary to cut and paste the relevant text into your forwarded message (or reply). Ideally, it's good to mark the quoted text somehow, like with "> " so we can tell what is quoted and identify the non-marked text as the new stuff.
