advice in this forum.]----

If you have the thumbscrew but no tension plate, make a tension plate as
follows:

Bend a piece of galvanized metal [rob a 2" piece from a heater duct] so
that
it fits
around the canopy rail. Drill a hole in it. Bend it loosely double.
Push
it on the canopy rail where the thumbscrew goes through [with the
thumbscrew
removed]. The thumbscrew goes through the hole in your piece, threads
into
the blind bolt, through the canopy rail, and screws against the other side

of your piece. When tightened, the thumscrew pushes your piece against
the
plexiglas, hopefully holding it in place.

For your 337: the tension plate should weigh about 1/2 oz. If you're anal

enough to use stainless steel, add 6 oz.

The hole is merely to permit the thumbscrew to retain the plate and keep
it
from falling off each time you loosen it.

If this doesn 't work, try cementing a piece of sandpaper to the side of
your plate that contacts the plexiglas.

If that doesn't work, fly your bird with the canopy open; that's what
Ercoupe's are for, anyway. It was good enough for Alcock and Brown.....
