Here's a good example of how paperwork can get all messed up. This Ercoupe on Ebay is said to be a 415C/D. My understanding is that it is a 415C converted to a D. The FAA has it as a 415CD. The owner says it was converted to a D, but can be put back to a C (which we know the FAA will not allow for sport plane rules) because it has always been registered as a CD. But he says there is a log book entry on the change to 415D. Doesn't the change to a 415D require an STC changing the type certificate from A-718 to A-787? If the 415D mods were made without notifying the FAA, isn't that illegal? I also noticed that the status of ownership was in question (from the FAA) and that a registration was pending. These are all warning signs, IMHO. Opinions?
