If it's the brightest star in the night sky, it's
probably Venus. Venus has a perpetual thick cloud cover which is highly
reflective and although not the closest planet, it is the brightest object in
the night sky (not counting the moon of course) when visible to the northern
hemisphere.
I'll confirm that with my brother who is an amateur
astronomer.

I wonder what the bright Planet just to the left of
the Moon is?
Time is 11:34 PM EDT 6/15/05
I know we are supposed to have a big Mars display
this Summer, but I thought that was in August.
