Good checklists.  Thanks, Harry!

I found the hard way that birds love nesting in aircraft engine compartments.  To prevent this, I took two old pair of polyester dress pants and tied one leg of one to one leg of the other.  These pants could easily be jammed in the main cowl opening.  I’d wrap one pair of pants around the knot to make a ball big enough to block the bigger opening.  (I also let the engine cool a little before inserting the “bird guard” to be sure the guard wouldn’t melt.)

It seemed necessary to have the two lumps of fabric tied together in case I ever totally forgot to remove it.  Then the turning prop would whip the pants out of the opening.

Still, I’d suggest adding “Remove bird guard from cowl” to your list.
