R M,
Did you ever notice that when you are driving a car and turn the steering wheel to make a corner, the wheel wants to turn back to center?  It feels like there are springs that try to center the wheel.  There are no springs.  It does that because of the "caster" that is set when the wheels are aligned  It's the angle that is set into the front king pin.  The Ercoupe nose wheel does exactly the same thing, due to the angle of the nose strut.  This has nothing to do with your definition from the Online Dictionary.  You need to look at some automotive resources.

The Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary
(http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary) for caster says,

"3 : any of a set of wheels or rotating balls mounted in a swivel frame and
used for the support and movement of furniture, trucks, and portable
equipment."

Though no definition of a verb form was available, the key is "swivel." Our
Ercoupe nose-gear does not swivel and therefore is not castering. It's not
helpful to depend on arguments about castering for an instant, and only
confuses matters.

R.M.,

Please do explain any error to me. I do think it's
technically correct to say what it says in our FAQ. Though I
wrote it, I ain't sensitive and will happily change the text
if needed.

Would you glance back at my previous post and then re-read
the FAQ section and tell me how it's wrong?

The article isn't *that* botched-up. Sure enough, our very
own Ercoupe site says the nose-gear castors! Sounds like our
site is botched, not the reporter.
