Makes my day when I can proof my usefulness to others.

As for the screen sizes. Not to long ago we had to make sure a website was still useable on a 640x480 screen, then 800x600 was the norm. Now, with flat screen displays the numbers are higher up, I know.
But in a software factory you have to care only for two screens as a developer, that is the Designers one and the one the CEO has. Hence the outcome.

As for Netscape versus Internet Explorer. Most people are using Internet Explorer. Most sites are built for Internet Explorer. Most sites do work in Internet Explorer.
The attackers to the Microsoft Operating system are using Internet Explorer cause it is the browser most people use.
If more people use Netscape, we will see hackers developing stuff which will utilize Netscape's flaws, which am sure there are a few of.
If you consider Microsoft as the evil empire, remember that Netscape is owned by AOL, they are worst at times with their marketing strategies.

I prefer Internet Explorer, cause it is the best browser out there and Microsoft is doing a great job closing the holes to keep the system safe.

I apply the security updates as they arrive and had no problems so far. Cross fingers.

Hartmut,

THANK YOU!!!    That’s a BIG improvement (pun not intended but allowed to stand)!

I just visited several problem websites and they are MUCH better.  On the xprize.com site, when the font is increased, the ledding doesn’t seem to increase so the lines overlap – still, it’s actually readable with IE. (I’ve already personally remonstrated with the xprize.com site design team.)

(Kindly forward my rude comments to your designers that want to make unreadable websites.  Please also inform them that 17” monitors and 1024x768 are the norm with the cheapo systems and those of us who are serious are getting 19” monitors and 1280x1024 and they’d better design for us.)

In the mean time, my tiny type problem is solved with IE.  (If anyone has a better solution, please pass that along, too.)

Now, Microsoft Guys, can you tell us anything about those supposedly non-corrected, known security flaws?

Ed.

I am in the Website Building Business since long.

The font issue is something we developers are aware of , but we fight against Designers who want their designs exactly to their specs, even when the product becomes unusable.

So with the help of style sheets font sizes are fixed to fit into the designed pages no matter what.

What you can do in Internet Explorer to disable the fixed font sizes is:

Under Tool ---> Internet options click on the Accessibility button lower right.

Click Ignore font sizes specified on web pages.

Problem solved.

You will notice though that some designed pages will not look as intended, but who cares as long as you can read them.
