This is why your fuel consumption was so high
Properly leaned is something that you must have the correct equipment, and proper technique to do. /x-tad-bigger>/fontfamily>
I respectfully disagree. Per the Ercoupe Instruction Manual (when all else fails, read the instructions!):
"At altitudes above 5000 ft., the decreased density of the air may cause the mixture to become too rich for best power (to say nothing of best fuel consumption-WRB). This may be investigated by moving...from full-rich position while checking the constant load rpm. If the rpm does not increase as the mixture is made leaner, the control should be returned to the full-rich position".
Even on a "standard day" (59ºF ambient), I would have routinely "investigated" my mixture upon exiting the pattern (1000' above the ground, 6000'+ msl). On a hot summer day, I'd suspect there was discernible benefit to leaning on the ground during runup!
Most Coupe's probably don't get leaned properly.

Completely agree.
I just believe it would be irresponsible to recommend a Coupe for flying out of a 1600 ft. 9" high grass strip at full gross./x-tad-bigger>/fontfamily>Did anyone make such a recommendation?
Regards,
WRB
