Opinions? Good and bad points? How easy is it to say call up an airport & do
a direct to while in flight?

Paul

I have the Garmin Pilot III, It sits on the glare shield so I'm always looking outside.
On a cross country I set the scale to 5 or 8 miles that way it shows all the airports along your course line. If you have a problem you can immediately turn to the nearest airport then play with the GPS to pull up the information while you are flying to it.  Its also reassuring to see all those airports along your route.
Also at the same time I have a current chart in my lap with a course line drawn on it with check points.
On the "Trip Computer" page I reset everthing but the odometer, I now have 29,900 miles on the coupe since I got in Sept 98.
Every time I fly I'm in awe of all those early flyers who didn't have charts or instruments to help them get to where they were going but they still got there and on time.

I love that little box!
