Topo would be good, and I'll look into what you suggest. But if it's only
topo for hikers, that could be dangerously misleading.  For instance not
far
from where I am (Sacramento Calif) there are 2 or 3 very tall TV antennas,
2000+ feet above the terrain.

No.  What I have is a hand held Garmin  "E-MAP".  They don't make it any
more.  The new models are etrex, and a few others.  But, the Topo software
is the same for all Garmins.  If yours is downloadable, go into your local
gps store and purchase the Topo program.  They have several programs such
as
highways and parks, etc.  I got my Topo program at West Marine.  Cost is
about $100.00.  Install in on your PC, and they you can repeatedly
download
all Topographical information for any area you are in, or are going to.
