----[Please read http://ercoupers.com/disclaimer.htm before following any advice in this forum.]---- Dave Marshall, 56, who has been on this list for some time was killed in an
accident with his Ercoupe last Sunday in Las Lunas, NM. just south of
Albuquerque. His passinger, Linda Fiedler, 55, was also killed. He
was attempting to land at the Mid Valley airpark during a period of severe winds
and rain. George, a friend of mine who lives there said tree
branches were blowing around his yard at the time. He said he heard Dave
on the radio while attempting to land on 36 and then abort the
approach in favor of the cross wind runway. Apparently, according to
George, when he turned down wind he was unable to maintain altitude and went
into a power pole. The paper said power was interrupted to about half the
county. He crashed about 3 miles from the field.
I was instrumental in bringing Dave and his Ercoupe together a couple years
ago and met him only once when we had lunch last year at ELP.
Linda survived a crash in a light plane which killed her
husband some 20 years ago and had refused to fly in light aircraft
since.
