Hi,

Here is a link to an article about Jim in his hometown
newspaper:

http://www.cgsentinel.com/articles/2003/08/06/news/news1.txt

Also, here is the web page to Wright's Tool Company:
http://www.wrightools.com/

and to his H-1 Racer page:
http://www.wrightools.com/hughes/

It's really worth taking a look at his racer page if
you've never seen it before, or even if you have. It
starts with a memorial statement and then goes on to
links about the plane and has numerous fabulous
photos, one even taken from Jimmy Leeward's P-51.
(Some of you might have heard of him from Reno.)

I hope some of you did have a chance to visit Wright's
home airport, Cottage Grove, Oregon. It is the
neatest little airport. Wright's Tool company is
next to the airport and he also had a race car that he
sometimes parked in front of his business. I noticed
that Oregon in general in INTO avaition history, and
Cottage Grove is no exception. (The Oregon Avaition
History Association, or some such group, did a PBS
show about WASPS and they interviewed one of our local
celebrities, a WASP. The Oregon TV group did a better
job of honoring our WASP than the locals did!) There
is a wonderful avaition history display there, in a
building that might belong to EAA? Not sure about
that.

Anyway, it is well worth reading up on the development
and the building of the H-1. What a project. First
homebuilt, indeed!

Spook
