I've been pondering a change of careers...

I've been in IT for the last 8 years and it is beginning to drag a bit.
Unfortunately I have nowhere near the financial wherewithal to purchase
SkyPort. (Just look at the current high tech industry) If some of you
would
like to form a corporation I would be glad to be the manpower and
hopefully
buy you out in a few years.

Worst case, would any of you consider making a personal loan towards the
purchase of Skyport?

-Chris

Question would be who would run it.
Time commitment would be endless.

Has the owners club ever considered buying it?

I doubt that Skyport made 75k/year under the new owner. First, he did
not
own it for a year so far and second, the customer base must have
declined a
bit with Lee's departure from Skyport, or Skyport departing from Lee.
This kind of business lives from the owners ability to spend a lot of
time
talking to customers and also from detailed knowledge of Ercoupes.
I think it would be the perfect business for a knowledgeable retired
person.

But the commitment would have to be overwhelmingly strong. Running a
business with all the paperwork , shipping, taxes and more is time
consuming. Plus pampering customers - add creating and maintaining a
Company
website and you are in for a lot of 18 hour days. California is charging
you
a minimum tax of $800 if you run a LLC, which Skyport is. You would have
to
sell quiet a bit to break even.

I am saying all that because I seriously looked into taking the business
-
it sounds nice to do, but the timely commitment is the big bummer. What
I
doubt is that the business return would allow for hiring people. I am
also
not even close to retirement age so I decided to see this opportunity go
to
someone else.

If all fails, one would own 3 Garages full of parts and 14 STC's .

Interesting... I was thinking the other way. If I was closer to
retirement this might be a fun thing to go. I hope someone picks this
up. When I had my first Ercoupe I spent a lot of money at Skyport
restoring it. This guy has only had it a year or so hasn't he? From what
I have read not many people have used them with this owner. Is that
true? If it is how could he have made 75K last year? Anyway since I now
have another Ercoupe the new owner can look forward to getting a bunch
of money from me if he wants it.

Wayne
I heard it was on E Bay for $75000. I was also told directly by Skyport
that I could buy it for that price. He told me the profits from sales
last year was close to that number. If I was a little younger I might
be tempted to take him up on it.
