In a couple of weeks I'll be 74. Big deal! I don't feel 74. I can pass a
physical without hiding anything. I don't understand not being proud of your
longevity.

We have a tendency and rightfully so of accusing the so called media for
distortion and sensationalism. Since when have reporters done a Who, What When
Where and Why story. If it doesn't fit the "template of the day," we don't
hear about it.

Reporters are like Congress, they don't tell their kids what they do for a
living.

This is a great country. We can all have our different opinions. Mine
differs from yours, and that is okay...

While I would agree that age and gender shouldn't matter, where do we
  expect the media to stop?

  Think about it...

If we're upset that they mentioned it was a female pilot (for fear
people will rush to judge the piloting abilities of the fairer sex), we
ask that they withhold that information.

If we're upset that they mentioned the pilot was 72 years young (for
fear people will rush to prohibit the joy of flying for persons over xx
years of age), we ask that they withhold that information.

If we're upset that they mentioned this happened at a small GA airport
(for fear people will rush to close such dangerous places or move them
to even more remote areas), we ask that they withhold that information.

If we're upset that they mentioned the airplane was an Ercoupe (for fear
people will brand the plane unsafe and call for their grounding), we ask
  that they withhold that information.

If we're upset that they mentioned "GA" at all (for fear people will run
for cover at the sight of every single-engine bird out there and call
for only commercial flights), we ask that they withhold that
  information.

Can you see how silly this is getting?

If there was any faults, it may be that not enough information was
printed... Not that there was too much information. But then again,
perhaps as good journalists, the airplane model, location of the
incident, age and sex of the pilot, was all that they could honestly
report with full knowledge without making erroneous errors that could
send them to court, or worse, take their "press pass" away.

As long as the press isn't lying or intentionally holding back
information (except names of innocents/minors), I'd like to know.

Of course, I'm not ignorant that they can put an
intentional/unintentional "spin" on the report, but that is why we have
so many journalists... To get different views of the same facts.

And no.... I don't work for any media companies. I'm a software
  programmer for a medical lab.

I think it is bad that they include age and gender. Especially, when
they do not wait for all the facts to come in. I think they should wait
to the NTSB decides on cause then report. The age and or gender of the
pilot really does not mater in determinations as it can happen to any
of us. It does not matter that she is 72.

My dad will be 90 in July, still flying and passing physicals. He is
sharp as a tack, has 60 years of flying experience, both privatly and
with the CAP. He has been honored by the FAA as a Master Pilot.

So lets wait for the outcome of the investigation and see what they
  find.
