I used a pad that cemented onto the oil pan on my Cherokee 6 for several years and was really happy with it. I could just plug it in the night before a flight and had a warm engine the next morning. I liked not have to carry and store other equipment when I wanted to pre-heat. The negative (not for me) was if I wanted a quick pre-heat for an unplanned cold start. Another advantage that I seldom used was being able to use my pre-heat when away from home...all I needed was an electrical outlet within 100'.

P.S. The other thing I did was put a small electric heater in the cabin the night before and then had a warm cabin, warm instruments, and warm windshield. I used a ceramic heater that had a thermostat on it and you could touch without burning yourself (to prevent igniting something in the plane...I placed
it on a cookie sheet just for added insurance).

I am going to but an engine preheater. The one that interests me the most is the "Northern Companion Heater" http:// www.tacaviation.com/instruct.htm

Does anyone use this or any other type preheater and if so, opinions please.
