Darick,
I guess I'll answer your questions, since I've been there every year
since 1972.
1. Possible to enter the grounds early? Yes, definitely. No problem.
2. Getting the camping gear to the Ercoupe group? Easy. You can park
your rental car about 1000 feet away from where we'll be, so just carry
your things to the spot. Of course, we won't be getting there until
Sunday around noon. I think I'd suggest that you stay somewhere else
Saturday night and arrive Sunday. Why not drive to Wausau and attend
the Ercoupe Banquet that wraps up the Nationals? Wausau is less than 2
hours from Appleton.
3. Camping with someone else's airplane? It shouldn't be a problem. I
usually have 2 tents by my plane, my tent and a friend's tent. I'm sure
other Ercoupers would allow you to do the same. I think that camping
with us is the best idea, rather than staying in the dorm. You will
really get the "Oshkosh experience," sitting around the planes late into
the evening, sharing meals with us, telling stories and jokes,
explaining Ercoupes to all of the spectators, etc.
All good questions, Darick. See you there.

Folks,
I'm planning to arrive at Appleton on Saturday (commercial
airlines), rent a car and drive to Oshkosh. Even though it doesn't
officially open until Monday, is it possible to enter the grounds, get
oriented, and basically get an early start?
Also, I wouldn't mind camping with the Ercoupe group, but how would
the logistics work out as far as getting camping gear there? And who
would share their airplane parking space with another camper, etc.
Right now, I'm planning to stay at the Ripon College dormitory which I
did last year. Any thoughts on the camping (plan #2) feasbility of
this or do you think it would be best just to go with plan #1-Ripon
College. I certainly don't want to interfere in anybody's space.
Thanks for your thoughts.
