In the 1970's, while studying the first environmental rumblings,
the "Bible" on the subject was the report of the Club of Rome, an
organization of top scientist who were using the cutting edge of
computer technology (a TRS-80) to issue forecasts on environmental
issues. They concluded that the world would be out of oil and food by
1990 and the world population would far exceed any numbers that we
see today. None of this has happened but they did pick up a slew of
grants and received donations to persue their cause. The
environmental movement accidently struck a gold mine with incoming
money and they don't want to let go of it so they continue to
manufacture "tipping points" that have no basis in fact.
Case in point. Oil. New fields are being discovered almost daily.
The Dakotas. Indonesia. Viet Nam. The Artic.
I am a petroleum geologist and will argue that if this is not true,
why has the price of oil dropped to around $40 a barrel with some
speculation that it could drop back to around $10?
Environmentalist are frauds. The idea of conservation, however, is
good and is the path we should be pursuing.
Wait till someone publishes how much carbon dioxide is produced while
brewing beer, wine and making alcohol. That would put the brakes on
the environmental movement read fast. Oh, the outcry and the outrage.
Where's my beer?
