When I bought my coupe, the first flight I had a problem with the dzu fastener at the lower front left cowling. It unfastened in flight, the cowling ripped backwards and ripped the cowling. I had it patched and that was suitable for a short time, but the rivets of the patch kept the fasteners from seating properly at the same fastener. Well, it popped open in flight again, and ripped the aluminum around another fastener. I think I need it replaced. My question is: Has anyone tried making a cowling out of the "blank" cowling sheets sold by Univair? A regular pre-made cowling is about $500 and these blanks are much less. Would a good sheet metal shop do this for less than a pre made one costs? And should I stay with the Dzu's or go to camlocs? Also I have the large oil door - can I move this to a new cowling without any STC paperwork, or does the original suffice. Lastly does anyone have a good left cowling for sale? Prefer polished aluminum! Thank for any advice. Rick Green N93686 ========================== To leave this forum go to: http://ercoupers.com/lists.htm
