You answered the questions yourself.

I bought the side cowl as set for my brothers plane last year. Skyport
has them for just over 100 bucks.
We had Dzus before and wanted to go to Camlocks.
Much better feeling.

I think one could make the side cowls himself if you have the proper
shop, but consider that it has to be made from 020 Alclad aircraft
aluminum.
The material alone costs and so does the labor for the shop. I think you
won't get it cheaper than as you get it from Skyport.

They do a nice job and the aluminum is barely scratched, highly
polishable.

The installation of the Camlocks and the riveting to the framework is
something where I would need help. Of course can you get the oil door
moved over, but why would you want to do that with so beautiful new side
cowls ???
