William, I have to agree with you. About two years ago the local shop sent my carb to a rebuilder to be gone through. For some time after that I had an intermittent problem of the engine quitting. At first it only happened when I would came into the pattern and reduced power (at the altitudes I fly at, I all most all ways need max power). No matter what I did the engine would always come back--add more power or add carb heat. Then one day while I was down at a lower altitude (6,500 msl) and backed the power off to slow down--the engine quit--carb heat brought it back to life. To make this very long story short, it turned out the mixture control wire was about ½ inch too long and would sometimes hit the carb body preventing the mixture from going full rich. Reducing power was enough to kill the engine every time it hung up. The mixture control does work on them old Strombergs. William as you know once you get over the --'OH SH__!' It is amazing how fast the old gray matter starts working. Richard. N99904 ========================== To leave this forum go to: http://ercoupers.com/lists.htm
