Canadian Design-change Rules Will Mirror FARs
Proposed amendments to Canadian Aviation Regulations will require that any
design change to aircraft, engines and propellers must meet the latest
airworthiness standards. The revisions would coincide with recent changes
to
the FARs affecting amended TC and STC modifications that go into effect
June
10. Previously, when proposing changes to a product, an applicant, such as
a
parts manufactureror or modifier, could continue to meet the standards
established at the initial certification of the product. Under the
proposed
regulations in Canada and the final rules in the U.S., any significant
change to the product would now need to meet the most recent aeronautical
standards as opposed to the standards at initial certification, except
where
it would not contribute to enhancing the level of safety. Comments are due
April 15.
