Sigh. It has worked fine for 55 years (well not on your Alon but on my 415-C <g>) but every new mechanic wants to redesign the airplane. My shutoff is under the left side of the panel, I can find it by feel (I know because my needle valve leaks and I shut it off after every flight and turn it on before the next). The wing tank shutoff is against the right wall and I check it by feel before every flight. If it ain't broke don't fix it. It is a certified airplane. The FAA likes it the way it is. If you change it you will have to get them to approve it. Just practice placing your hand on the shutoffs to make sure you can reach them in an emergency. I am surprised your mechanic is willing to let you fly with the big gas tank in front of you like that - now THAT is dangerous. Wait til he will not sign off until you move it. I am much less concerned about shutting off the header tank than I am about the generator on my C-85 being shoved into the header tank in a forward crash. And how about a ballistic chute? My Cirrus has one, better put one in. And carburetors make ice, time to swap out that O-200 for a decent engine with FI. Really. It is an old design. Some changes make sense, but the chance of needing the shut offs is small and you can prepare for it by practice. Put the effort into stuff that makes everyday flying safer. He would like to come up with extensions for both and move the handles to the panel. He suggested I post here and see if anyone has done this already. If so do you have a copy of the 337 we could use? ========================================================================== ==== To leave this forum go to: http://ercoupers.com/lists.htm Search the archives on http://escribe.com/aviation/coupers-tech/
