The Kinney nose bowl requires quite a lot of extra fitting to get it right. I suspect that you have too much air leaking into the bottom portion of your cowling. I know you have looked at the baffling around the cylinders and behind the engine. However, check to see how closely your carburetor air box is to the nose bowl. The cutout for the carburetor/oil tank air box is considerable, and can easily be letting extra air in there. In addition, I have found most of the Coupes that I work on are missing one or more baffles around the crankshaft opening. This lets the air bleed right down to the lower cowl area without passing through the cylinders first.
Which engine do you have? If it is the C-85, do you have the oil tank baffles in place?
