The older cases do not have through bolts.  The studs on #3 are (if I
recall 
correctly) through studs and go from the cylinder base into the opposite
case 
half to provide the clamping force on the main bearing.  Be glad this is
not 
the one that broke.  Nothing good can come of it.  The stud on the #2 side

should be the same as the other 7/16 studs on that side, part number
25331.

Later cases (after the introduction of the O200) have through bolts in
this 
position and are a lot stronger in the area of the center main bearing
web.  
The early style often cracks around the stud where it screws into the case
in 
the event of a prop strike with a metal prop.  Late style cases that take
early 
conical mounts are rare and quite desireable.  there is no approved way to

convert an old style to use the through studs because of an oil passage in
close 
proximity.

Try and figure out why the stud broke....
