----[Please read http://ercoupers.com/disclaimer.htm before following any advice in this forum.]---- Thanks to all those who replied to my query about
dismantling my Forney nose gear.
As is always the case, when it was apart I found a
problem that
I am not sure how to deal with.
The plane was put into a gopher hole in the late
60's, and the
engine mount and a bunch of other stuff was
repaired.
Now that I examine the gear I find that the the
lower gear mount
on the outer tube was welded, and has in fact
cracked along part of the
weld. I have a certified welding shop in town and
will show them
both the mount and the gear for their
opinion.
But I am wondering about the advisability of
welding the gear tube.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. Univair is
asking 650 US$ for a new
one so I would prefer not to go that route unless
necessary.
