You can put it in experimental class and leave it there from now on
depending on what class you put it in. You are correct in the one you
mention for testing purposes it is temporary.

Hi Tony,

In the USA there is no real option. You can get into experimental for the
purpose of trying to do the proving flights for a modification such as a
different engine but a certificated aircraft like a Coupe can not stay in
any experimental category indefinitely. The deal that people would like to
do is get it into Experimental Homebuilt" so that they can make changes
and
do the annual maintenance themselves. For the most part they would not
have
the background or education to do this safely and as they have not built
the FAA required 51% the FAA just says no. The Canadians have a deal that
works for them but we have yet to see how it will work out over time and
if
they are able to sell the aircraft when they are done with them.

Have a good day.

Best regards,
Vern

What are the Pros and cons of putting your plane in experimental status
verses certified status. And can you bring to certified status if you
would like to. Tony 94157
