Actually, the "through the panel" part was discontinued at SN 2523. The same valve continued in production, just without the extension.
A counter-example has to be the brake master cylinders These, too, are made
of 'unobtanium' but under Lee, Skyport got a nice STC to use a generic
homebuilder's master cylinder to replace and improve it. Analogous fuel valves
are in the Aircraft Spruce catalog, some of which work remotely via a
cable. It seems
to me it should be possible to do the same thing for fuel valves as was done
for the brakes.
Lee was working on exactly that. He did not finish, and I have to start over. Meanwhile, times have changed and the slope is much steeper than it was a few years ago.
