Hi William,
You have already answered why you shouldn't do this. It is because the
hoses are dimensionally different. 303 hose is meant to be used with 491
fittings on the ends. I didn't say that you could not use these new hoses
on
an Ercoupe. You just need to use the proper fittings with them. Anything
can
be approved on a 337 if it is done properly but you don't need a 337 to
install proper hoses. I know that John does not agree with this and I am
trying to find someone else that disagrees but so far have not found
anyone.
No, I was not around when the hoses were designed; I am just trying to use
them as they were designed to be. Have you looked at 666 hoses? I don't
think it would even stay on with a clamp.

Kevin

Hi Again Kevin,

Can you give reference to the regulatory prohibition (or functional
problem)
applicable to installation of 303 or exterior stainless braid hoses on
original Ercoupe push-on/clamp fuel fittings?

Forgive me if I doubt your physical presence in the design phase of both
303
rubber and 666 Teflon hoses. Your personal opinion as to the "intent",
(or
design considerations and installation applications contemplated) for
these
hoses, while welcome, does not change my earlier speculation that, in case
of engine compartment fire, a hose with an external metal braid might fail
so as to release the fuel therein a bit later.

The Manufacturer's recommendations may well constitute the "by the book"
use
of the product, but why would not these improved materials be approved for
use in an Ercoupe by 337 in the interest(s) of safety?

Regards,

WRB
