Jeeze, Lynn, there’s no
way the 13 – 9 degree change can make a 20 mph difference in touchdown
speed. With my D, the touchdown
speed was around 53-55 mph compared to a C model’s 47-52 mph touchdown with 13
degree up travel.
Anyone who can’t get
their D model down well below 60 had better do some airspeed indicator repairs.

Subject: Re: [COUPERS-TECH] Model
C to D conversion paperwork
Ed: I apologize for taking so long. NO, I
do not think one needs to apply for and get approval to convert a C to a D
model. However, I think it is prudent to obtain a 337 approval and record the
changes with the FAA. That way the modification will be on file in Oklahoma
City, and I doubt that there would be any heartburn with an insurance company.
If it was me, I
would go ahead and modify the elevator to the later version. I think the
Coupe handles so much better when landing at 50 mph rather than 70.
