Checking for leaks up higher is really a good idea. Fortunately,
avgas leaves a mess of coloring when it evaporates. Get some
nice white paper towels and start wiping until everything is clean
and you don't see any more residue (I'll spare you the analogy).

Then do whatever stimulates the leak. Now wipe those same areas
from top to bottom. As soon as you start seeing staining, you've
found the source.

Someone else pointed out that a Stromberg leaking from the float
bowl when the engine is shut down is a pretty common problem.
If it isn't pouring out, shutting off the fuel seems to be the fix. I
found with my Stromberg, I didn't have to kill the engine by
shutting off the fuel...closing the main valve after shutdown
lowered the pressure enough so that there was no leak.
