Hi Again All...And apoligies to all who fly
certified aircraft.
The floorboard mod I mentioned
earlier, is in a 'Coupe which is registered in the Owner Maintenance Category up
here in CANADA.
Basically the fwd part of the
floorboard is manufactured from a piece of aluminum sheet and is in all accounts
the fwd part to the original floor board, slightly redesigned with the
appropriate clearences from the fwd bulkhead and the inner sideskins and control
collum lower assy to prevent wear. The aft floorboard is part of the original
wooden floorboard cut back (is this FAA approved plywood finished to spec ?, who
knows the logs are hazy at best! but a good point never the less).
The modification was conceived
and designed with the help of a very good friend who is a senior Air Craft
Structures (former Machinist and Metals Technician) Technician in the Canadian Forces.
Would this pass inspection in
the USA, I'm not qualified to say. Engineering wise,
I haven't performed a stress annalysis test or crunched the
numbers WRT mateial yield breakage compatibility but it performs two basic
requirements for me. One it allows me easy access to the area just fwd of the
main spar and aft of the fwd break pedal support w/o having to remove the break
pedal, turning a full hours' job into a ten or fifteen minute job. And two, It
allows me to retain the original astetics feel of having wiood in the
cockpit.
As with all modifications seek
the advice of a professional in that area of expertise, fill out the appropriate
paperwork to make it leagal and fill in the Technical Logbooks with all the
information you can. This will make the history of the aircraft sound for all
who inspect the books.
