Hi Bob and Congradulations on your
purchase.
When we bought our coupe I used a friend IC A21 to
get it to my home field with the rubber duck, and it worked just
fine.
I then purchased a new IC A5 and as hard as I tried
I couldn't get it to work, either with or without an external mounted ant. The
company sent me a new one and I still had the same woes. I traded up to the more
expensive Icom A200 panel mount and installed it myself. It cost about double
the amount of the hand held but the reception and the transmission has been
fantastic. Perhaps find a company with a 30 day exchange policy and trial one.
There is a new brand on the market which looks appealing, I can't remember how
it's spelt but it's someting like Yasu.
