How would one of these items work on the plexi?  Not sure if it would be of the same assistance as it would be in an auto.  Best thing is to have that canopy opened upon contact with the ground.  If you impact then invert, the fire is going to get you.

Subject: [COUPERS-TECH] EMERGENCY EXIT - ALONS ANS MOONEYS

----[Please read http://ercoupers.com/disclaimer.htm before following any advice in this forum.]----

I'm new to Coupes, and don't pretend to be an expert. I have a lot of time in USMC fighters and often think about how to get the hell ot of a downed airplane. Specifically, I think the canopies on my ALON and in later MOONEYS, might present  an exit problem in event of a forced/cash landing. I think the canopies will be forced forward upon impact, rendering them incapable of being opened. WAL-MART offers a simple "pointed hammer" escape tool (complete with a seat belt cutter and a flashlight) for $5.86! !   It  is easily installed with three screws, on the aft bulkhead of the luggage compartment ,  within reach of each crewmember. You can't beat the price !!
