The newer GPS units with the
WAAS (wide area augmentation system) capability turned on can be pretty accurate
in altitude. Id watch for
stability in the numbers while flying and compare it to field altitude when
parked by the sign. Maybe Id even
have my copilot take a GPS altitude reading while I did a high speed pass 10
feet above the runway for an accuracy check.
My 7-year old $99 cheapie GPS
doesnt give me accurate nor stable altitude
info.
