For example, the O200 crank STC for C85s was determined not to increase horsepower beyond 93.5 hp and therefore, after jumping through all appropriate hoops, was approved. Adding appropriate camming and carburetion to make it equivalent to an O200 would not have received approval as it exceeds the 10% allowance. The logic behind this is that a C85 powered airplane has to have predictable performance. Too little and you end up in the trees. Too much and, well, in coupland, you may stall, spin and die.
