Bob: Removal of the propeller is a simple task. First one must remove the
spinner, and then the safety wire on the prop bolts. Once the safety wire is
off, loosen all of the six bolts holding the prop on. Mark the position of the
spinner and the propeller in relation to the engine hub before removal, so they
can be put back on in the same position. After they are all marked, you can
remove the prop and spinner backing plate. If you already have the screws out of
the nose bowl, you will be able to remove it now.
Replacement is a reversal of the process, however,
one must carefully torque the prop bolts to 25 ft pounds prior to installation
of the safety wire. Also check the prop arc to make certain that the tips are
within 1/8 inch of the same when passing the same point i.e. the nose wheel. If
not, you need to check the flange for trueness and, if the prop is not bent, you
need to shim it so it will track true.
